Monday, June 13, 2016
World Vision would like to congratulate the former chair of World Vision Australia, Anne Robinson on her appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia in today’s Queens Honours Awards for her significant service to the community, governance, charity and the law.
World Vision Australia’s current chair, George Savvides said Ms Robinson had played a pivotal role in positioning the Christian not-for-profit organisation as Australia’s leading international aid and development agency during her time on the board and as chair of World Vision Australia from 2005-2012.
“Anne’s steady and faith-filled leadership was key to the strong growth and increased depth in the organisation experienced during her tenure. This laid a solid foundation for World Vision’s work overseas and in Australia to this day.”
Mr Savvides said Ms Robinson, the first woman ever appointed chair of World Vision Australia and who was also a member of the Board of World Vision International, had travelled extensively during her tenure, visiting World Vision projects around the world. “These experiences informed and fuelled Anne’s compassion for those living in poverty and injustice and her dedication to the mission and values of international aid and development,” he said.
The Chief Executive of World Vision Australia, Tim Costello said Ms Robinson had also been particularly passionate about World Vision’s indigenous programs and had helped cement the organisation’s commitment to expanding its work with indigenous Australia.
“Her passionate commitment to the world’s most vulnerable, along with her Christian faith drove Anne’s leadership of the organisation,” Mr Costello said.
Ms Robinson is also one of the most respected experts on the governance and regulation of charities and not-for-profit organisations in Australia and a driving force in the reform of how charities and not-for-profits are regulated in Australia (including the establishment of the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission 2011), Mr Costello said.
Ms Robinson is one of the authors of Driven by Purpose (published in 2012) which analyses the historical and social context of Australian charities and considers the relationship between charities and Australian society and has become a reference text for leaders in the industry.
Mr Savvides and Mr Costello said the board and staff of World Vision also joined them in congratulating Mark Kelly who was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia for services to the international community through humanitarian programs. Mr Kelly, a Queenslander, is currently the National Director of World Vision Zambia. He has served in numerous senior international leadership roles with World Vision and the UN.
