World Vision condemns air strike on Aleppo hospital
Friday, April 29, 2016
World Vision Australia chief executive Tim Costello has condemned the bombing of an Aleppo hospital, describing it as a shattering blow to Syria’s fragile ceasefire.
An air strike on the al Quds field hospital, established with the backing of Médecins Sans Frontières and the International Committee of the Red Cross, killed dozens of people, including children, doctors and nurses.
Mr Costello said the attack was a shattering blow to the fragile ceasefire that had allowed for some humanitarian aid to resume in Syria.
“This is another tragic day in five years of tragic days,” Mr Costello said. “It is also a terrible reminder of the cost of this conflict for children.
“World leaders are shirking their responsibilities. Every day that this conflict is allowed to continue brings more suffering, more children killed, more children orphaned, more refugees searching for a life outside of Syria. We must bring this conflict to an end.”
Tim Costello is available for interview.
