World Vision cautiously welcomes Syria ceasefire
Thursday, September 15, 2016
World Vision has given a cautious welcome to the Syria ceasefire deal. The agreement, brokered by the US and Russia in Syria, would see a halt to air strikes and humanitarian access to besieged areas of the country.
Wynn Flaten, Director of World Vision’s Syria Response, said: “There are early signs that the ceasefire deal is holding and, as ever, we remain hopeful.
“But the real test for us is a very practical one: it’s whether we can get life-saving aid delivered to children in some of the worst-affected areas.
“Even when the guns and bombs fall silent, there are families who are hungry and need urgent medical help. We’re all poised to deliver assistance, and hope the ceasefire and increased co-operation between parties to this conflict means we’ll be able to do that.”
