Students read the handout 'How natural are disasters?' In this 2-page resource, students complete a cloze activity using a text that outlines some of the human activities that can exacerbate the causes and impacts of natural disasters. Students then analyse graphs on the trend of reported disasters, and the percentage of people killed by disasters by region, to identify trends in the incidence and impact of disasters.
This resource is an excerpt from Get Connected: Disasters (2011).
In the follow-on handout 'Christian Studies - How natural are disasters?', students consider the thoughts, statements and questions that disasters can raise about God. Students examine Psalm 103:8-14, Luke 13:1-4, and Romans 8:18-22 for how they might address some of these questions.
