Run or walk for global change
That’s why, on 4 May 2019, people from around the globe walked or ran that distance as part of Global 6K for Water – raising funds to help bring life-changing clean water to children and communities in need.
This year, more than 50,000 people in 23 countries took part in Global 6K for Water.
It's not too late to get involved! You can walk or run your 6K any time that suits you. One day of fun and fitness can help bring a lifetime of clean water to communities in need.
Do you love bringing people together, have a knack for events or want to get your friends, family or community group together for fitness and fun? Hosting your own Global 6K for Water event is easy and fun – World Vision offers all the support and advice you need. You can host the event on a day and time that suits you!
Together we can raise vital funds to help bring clean water to communities in need. As a participant, you can join an existing team or participate virtually.
Grace fills up a tiny three-litre can with dirty swamp water for her family of five to consume.
Water is life. For five-year-old Ugandan Grace, this holds a deeper meaning. Her everyday life is defined by a six-kilometre walk to a nearby swamp while facing the risk of being assaulted or kidnapped – just to collect water for her family.
Consuming the heavily-contaminated swamp water gives Grace frequent bouts of fever, diarrhoea and headaches. Grace, who has been diagnosed with kidney disease and is currently two years behind on her education, is desperately waiting to see better days for herself and her family.
Clean, safe water is essential for life. But for 844 million people around the world it’s out of reach.
World Vision is the largest non-government provider of clean water in the developing world. We’re committed to reaching everyone with clean water, everywhere we work by 2030 – and you can help to make that happen.
By joining Global 6K for Water, you’ll help children and their communities access the clean water they need to lead healthier lives. Water that can open a world of new possibilities for improved livelihoods, nutrition and education. Water that can help children like Grace live up to their potential.
See if someone else in your church, school or group can help by taking over the planning and running of the event. If for some reason this isn’t possible, people can still do the Global 6K for Water as a virtual participant. This means they will participate but not be involved in an official event, instead doing it in their own time and location.
We won’t be collecting times, but of course you can time yourself or compete with your fellow participants using a running app.
If you are hosting the event as a part of your church, it is likely to already have public liability insurance. Please discuss this with your church first before proceeding. World Vision insurance does not extend to third party events, and therefore host sites are required to organise their own.
You can put these posters up at your school, church, community area and supporting venues to encourage others to join your Global 6K for Water event.
