Thank you to everyone who gave generously to the 2007 Multiplying Gift Appeal. Over $4 million was raised to help desperate people in Kenya and other African countries. Your support enabled us to distribute more than 49,000 metric tonnes of food aid and other relief essentials to more than 900,000 people.
Desperate poverty, drought, civil conflicts and other ongoing problems have resulted in severe food shortages in many places including Zambia, Kenya, Malawi, Swaziland, Somalia, Uganda, Lesotho, Sudan and Mauritania. But thanks to the support of generous Australians, World Vision continues to distribute life-saving food aid and other relief essentials through the United Nations World Food Programme.
In April 2007, Esther and her family escaped from a rebel army who were burning down villages and abducting children in northern Uganda. Living in a camp for displaced people, Esther's family received monthly rations of maize seeds, beans and cooking oil. Food distribution continues to save the lives of many families in the camp.
"
Food aid is a great relief to us," says Esther. "We can now eat two times a day!" Esther's eight-year-old daughter, Sharon tells us directly: "Without the food, we would have died."
World Vision is a Public Benevolent Institution and operates two funds which have Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status with the Australian Tax Office.
