World Vision's Christian identity

Who we are

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

We provide help on the basis of need and serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

How faith motivates our work

At the heart of our faith is the belief that God is love and that God’s love holds the power to change a life – for good. Our faith and values motivate us to bring positive, long-term changes to the communities we work with through effective development, advocacy and relief programs.

Our mission is to help break the cycle of poverty and injustice and help communities become self-sufficient.

We help all people in need

We do not induce or demand that others convert to Christianity or participate in Christian activity in order to receive benefit from our work.

Ethically, to do so would be to deny a core aspect of our faith, that God extends his love and grace to everyone. Practically, such action would put at risk our work with the poor and our ability to work in many regions in the world.

“This is earth in its poverty and its pain. If God hasn’t given up on this place, then as a Christian, I can’t give up.” – Rev. Tim Costello, CEO World Vision Australia

Share in our vision

"Our vision for every child is life in all its fullness, our prayer for every heart, the will to make it so."

It is through everyday Australians who share our values of empathy, compassion and justice that World Vision is empowered to help people move towards self-sufficiency.

There are many ways to get involved in our work. You can donate, take action or learn more
