5 simple steps to 40 Hour Famine success

Raising money to fight hunger is easy if you follow these five no-fail steps.

1. Register

First things first, decide whether you're going participate as an individual or as part of a group. Then register online to do the 40 Hour Famine and create your Famine Profile. If you're signing up as part of a group, follow the prompts to find your group and link your profile to them. If you're registering as an individual, make sure you check the right button!

Once you’ve got a Famine Profile, you can watch videos, take quizzes, compare your progress with your friends’ and earn steps on your journey to fight hunger!

Part of a group? If you’re doing the 40 Hour Famine as part of a group, but can’t find your group when you register, you can sign up as an individual first and then join your group later on.

Please note, if you register as an 'Individual participant' or are a part of a group that isn't a school or church, you can only collect donations online (for more information, take a look at our FAQs).

2. What are you giving up?

Decide what you are going to give up for the 40 hours. Here are some ideas. Then set your fundraising target and start collecting donations!

3. Collect donations

Remember, by doing the 40 Hour Famine, you’re helping raise money for hungry children and families around the world. It’s a great cause, so don’t be shy in asking family and friends to support you with a donation. We’ve put together some tips for you on how to ask for money.

All donations must be received by World Vision by 30 September 2012.

Remember: Don’t wait until after the 40 Hour Famine weekend to collect your donations. Keep an eye on your Famine Profile to make sure the money is coming in. You should try to collect your donations before the 40 Hour Famine weekend so your fundraising thermometer remains up-to-date on your online Famine Profile.

Please note: Individual participants and groups other than school and church can only collect donation online.

4. Do the 40 Hour Famine

Giving up something important to you for 40 hours can be hard (the Famine officially starts at 8pm Friday 17 August and goes through to 12pm on Sunday 19 August) but you can really make the most of it. Make it fun by spending it with friends!

Log in to your Famine Profile during the 40 Hour Famine weekend (unless you’re giving up the internet, that is) and while away the hours by doing more steps of the Famine Journey.

5. Apply for an award

Celebrate your hard work with a fun award.

You can find out how much you need to fundraise to get an award, what you can win, and how you can apply at our 40 Hour Famine awards page.

Are you 15 or under?

Please make sure your parents or guardian also read the World Vision Australia website terms of use and the 40 Hour Famine Conditions of Participation before you sign up.

Can't do 40 Hour Famine weekend? You can choose another 40 hour period. Just get your money in before 30 September 2012!
