Esther Schroeder

Youth Ambassador for Victoria and Tasmania

“It’s one thing to hear about the rise of consumerism, but quite another to see it through the lives of children living in poverty.”

Esther is 18 and studies Medicine. She was first inspired to become a doctor when she read the autobiography of Dr Catherine Hamlin, founder of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.

It is quite hard to wrap your head around the fact that the one room houses, the trips to the water pump and one or two meals per day is not just a two week experience for these kids and their families, but the reality of their lives,” she says.
